Mother is a form of God's blessing of our life. Mothers are everything for us. Fromthe very day we step in this world our lives revolve round our mother. For everything we need we run to our mother. When we are scared we need our mothers to render us courage. We need our mothers to protect us from all perceivable dangers, to kiss away our wounds, to hold hands when we stumble. The role that a mother plays in the life of a child, that is simply irreplaceable. There is simply no way we can ever really thank our mother for all she has done for us. A mother always means right and she always will be. She always prays to God to keep us well and be ever ready to bear the pain that her child may be experiencing. Mothers Day is the perfect day to celebrate the joys of having a mother. It is the time to make amends for not being able to spend quality time with her. It is always a tuff task to decide a gift for the person who gives everything whatever she has for the well being of her child. A mother is incomparable, unmatched rather she is a living angel to her family. She always appreciates the gifts her children buy for her, not matter what it is, she will always treasure the gift as her best possession. A single, little thought of purchasing gift for her makes her day more delightful.
The origin of observing a day as mother's day goes back to the history in UK where a Mothering Sunday was celebrated much before the festival saw the light of the day in US.
Anna Jarvis is recognised as the Founder of Mothers Day in US. Anna Jarvis got the inspiration of celebrating Mothers Day from her own mother Mrs Anna Marie Reeves Jarvis in her childhood. An activist and social worker, Mrs Jarvis used to express her desire that someday someone must honor all mothers, living and dead, and pay tribute to the contributions made by them. Anna's mother died in 1905. To begin with Anna, send Carnations in the church service in Grafton, West Virginia to honor her mother. Carnations were her mothers favorite flower and Anna felt that they symbolised a mothers pure love. Later Anna along with her supporters wrote letters to people in positions of power lobbying for the official declaration of Mothers Day holiday. The hard work paid off. By 1911, Mother's Day was celebrated in almost every state in the Union and on May 8, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. It is unfortunate to note that Ms Anna Jarvis, who devoted her life for the declaration of Mothers Day holiday was deeply hurt to note the huge commercialisation of the day. She strictly opposed making profit on this day which she wanted to be a day of sentiments.
At present mothers day celebration take place in all over world, though the date varies from place to place, people take the day as an opportunity to pay tribute to their mothers and thank them for all their love and support. Some countries follow the US and celebrate mothers day on the second sunday of may while other countries celebrate it on different dates. There is also a tradition of gifting flowers, cards and others gift to mothers on the Mothers Day. Carnations have come to be associated with Mother's Day. White carnations are supposed to represented purity and love. At present it has become a tradition to regard red carnations as a symbol of a living mother and white carnations as a symbol of one's mother no longer alive.
